Level up your life with the 80/20 rule… create healthy habits to transform your life.

Welcome to the new year friends, this January I urge you to make a new years promise. Not a resolution because that implies you were doing something wrong before. A promise to yourself to step into your truth, because guess what? You are the main character in your life and your happiness matters. Let’s support each other and anchor in kindness and self-love with these tips.

What is the 80/20 rule and how can it help me?

The Pareto rule, also known as the 80/20 rule means that:

80% of outcomes result from 20% of causes.

In other words, invest in what you love 20% of the time and that will carry you through the 80% with ease and fulfillment. Ultimately, never underestimate the power of putting your self-care and your needs, wishes and wants first. So how are you spending your 20 percent, and who is influencing your actions?

Invest in a sense of calm and purpose by creating these 4 healthy habits …

  1. Letting go

Remove from your life ‘that which no longer serves you’. This might involve deleting apps on your phone which drain your time and ruin your self-esteem, or even people in your life. You have permission to let them be. No dramatic exit, just a gentle releasing of relationships, friends or family who no longer bring you joy. Notice who lights you up and make it a habit to spend more time around those people. Make room for more happiness to enter your life.

  1. Journalling

I have found it truly helpful to create a sense of calm in my own life by journaling. The flow of the ink onto the paper and the clarity I get from organising my own thoughts is so comforting. I urge you to find a time in the day to suit you whether it’s first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Welcome in your thoughts with either a structure of gratitude (I am grateful for… , then list 5 things every day) or just a free flow of thought. This daily habit will serve you well.

  1. Self-care night

What do you enjoy? For me I love nothing more than sparking up a scented candle, inhaling the aroma and cosying up under a supersoft blanket with a good book. I always make a point of having a weekly bath to relax in with my favourite playlist or a good podcast. This is also a perfect time to say out loud your affirmations. Find out what you love and make it a weekly habit.

  1. Date yourself!

Yes you heard me right! When you take yourself on a date you are encouraged to think about the things you love. You do not have to take into account anyone else’s wants, needs or opinions. This monthly habit will really encourage you to reflect on who you are as a person. Positive ‘I am’ statements are now part of my daily ritual but I once had to really think about who I was and who I wanted to be. This was especially important for me to model to my own children, create a positive mindset and set healthy boundaries.

Embrace this opportunity to make self-love a habit with these simple adjustments to your day, week or month. Set yourself up for success and plan in your habits on the calendar so that eventually it becomes part of your natural flow. You owe it to yourself to live the best life possible whatever that means to you! It’s time to take control, create a pathway to inner transformation and uncover all the magic inside of you.
